About me
Bio
Andreas Ziegelbäck was born in 1997 in Wels (Upper Austria). He studied Music Education at the University Mozarteum Salzburg and History at Paris Lodron University. Alongside his studies, he completed a four-year program in Band Conducting under the guidance of conductor and composer Thomas Doss, graduating in 2018. It was Doss who sparked his interest in composition. Ziegelbäck then pursued studies in Composition with Johannes Maria Staud at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. He later studied Band Conducting with a focus on composition at the Bern University of Arts under Rolf Schumacher, Sandro Blank, Corsin Tuor, Stephan Hodel, and Oliver Waespi, graduating with summa cum laude.
Ziegelbäck is a prize winner and recipient of national and international composition competitions. In 2025, he placed second at the International Conducting Competition of the CISM and BDMV. Since 2025, he teaches as Senior Artist in Band Conducting at the Gustav Mahler Private University in Klagenfurt and serves as a juror for various music and composition competitions. Ziegelbäck composes works for Concert Band, Brass Band, Fanfare Band, and a wide range of ensemble settings. Since 2023, his works have been published exclusively by Symphonic Dimensions Publishing.
My Motivation
The intention behind my musical work is to enable performers to see themselves as valuable members of their community, ensemble, or orchestra. My curiosity—merging progressive sounds with my own stylistic approach—drives me forward. At the heart of this process lies the performance itself.
Time and again, I am fascinated by the interactions that unfold between conductor, orchestra, and audience, and by the intensity of the emotional exchange that takes place. To accompany and experience this process is something I find deeply fulfilling.

Conductor
As a conductor, my passion lies in the musical collaboration with people. My goal is for every musician to experience themselves as an essential part of a shared musical ideal. Guiding musicians, inspiring people with musical ideas, and leading ensembles or orchestras to peak performances through an appreciative, humanistic approach brings me immense joy.
Composer
As a composer, I am constantly in search of the “fresh” sound, exploring a diverse interplay of timbres, styles, and aesthetics. My musical language is a dialogue between emotional depth and intellectual complexity—music for both the heart and the mind.
Lecturer
As a lecturer, I aspire to be the same source of inspiration for my students that my own mentors were for me. Depending on their skills and knowledge, I meet people where they are and support them on their individual journey. Sharing my experiences as a composer and conductor, and accompanying their progress, is something I find deeply enriching.
